About UsThe Activity Bus Charitable Organization, formerly known as The Toronto Not-For-Profit Bus Organization, is a Canadian registered charity. The purpose of the Organization is to acquire and operate buses designed for the transportation of severely disabled children. Schools across Canada generally provide transportation for children to and from schools within a budget established for the various school boards. Unfortunately, transportation for community-related activities for severely disabled children is not covered within these limited budgets, and its expense is prohibitive. Because of this problem, severely disabled children are not able to fully participate in and benefit from educational, cultural and sporting activities provided by the respective schools. As a solution to overcome this funding deficiency, the Activity Bus Charitable Organization was created to acquire and operate free transportation by buses specially designed for the severely disabled populations of school boards. These buses, known as Activity Buses, provide transportation from schools and other activity centers to sporting, cultural and other events/venues, to allow severely disabled children to participate in valuable community activities. The Activity Buses are designed to carry up to 11 wheelchairs and 14 support staff depending upon the selected configuration for inclusion of ambulatory disabled students. The experience of being on one of the Activity Buses provides the means for these children to more fully experience the world in which they live. The Organization complies with the provisions of the Highway Traffic Act, the Public Vehicles Act (Ontario), and all regulations relating to the provision of transportation. The goal of the Organization is to continue the acquisition and maintenance of Activity Buses to facilitate enjoyment for the children by providing the required transportation services. Capital and operational funding is obtained through donations received. The Organization relies on the generosity of individuals, corporations, community groups and other foundations to provide funds to create an increase in accessibility for the children to life's experiences which we so commonly enjoy. MissionTo achieve lasting improvements in the quality and to increase the quantity of specially designed Activity Buses for severely disabled children, enabling them to participate in and benefit from educational, cultural and sporting activities, to enrich their lives. There are myths regarding the severely disabled that must be dispelled. For instance, they are not “able” to do or enjoy anything. The Activity Bus Charitable Organization aims to promote awareness and understanding that we are all able - it is just a matter of perception.
